Creative Landscape in Mixed Media with Alison Orchard, 24 / 25 June 2019

Using inks, gouache wax resist, collage and many other techniques.

Alison will lead a second workshop where students can release their inhibitions working and responding to the landscape in the open air.  She will give an introduction to analysing and composing the landscape and demonstrate a range of techniques in many media including inks, wax resist, bleach, and collage.  She will generously share her repertoire of techniques including her dynamic approach to using inks.   Students will learn ways to introduce light and atmosphere into their landscapes and layering effects to create depth and perspective.  The course will broaden your range of skills and encourage a fresh and experimental approach to landscape painting, come prepared to really engage with these techniques and push your boundaries.  Suitable for all levels.

THINGS TO BRING

We will provide a selection of inks, wax and moulding pastes but do bring along any materials you may have.  We will provide high quality cartridge paper for your finished works but bring sketch books and rough paper.

The below is a guide, please don’t feel that you need to buy everything. 

Art materials: Any inks, bring what you have (black/sepia and colours), Alison will demo different types of inks, but water-soluble (Quink ink) is ideal, in black. A permanent ink or pen is useful. Recommendations: Dr. PH Martins watercolour inks or Golden High Flow.Wax kids crayons, wax candle, inktense pencils/sticks, pencil, pva glue, bleach, sketchbook, salt.A selection of gouache paints especially white.

Please dress for mess – you may wish to wear disposable gloves to prevent inky fingers! Alison will be demonstrate the use of bleach with ink – bleach application is at your own risk, please use caution and avoid touching your eyes with your fingers.
